Essential Oil Uses

In my search for natural home remedies for hair and skin, the use of essential oils piqued my interest. I reached out to NOW (http://www.nowfoods.com/) and they were kind enough to send me a few of their oils.

  • air fresheners
  • bathing
  • diffusers
  • hand and foot soaks
  • hair and skin care (keep an eye out for these in a post next week)

I liked them so much I put in an order at www.iherb.com for a few others and have been loving experimenting with the different uses. Cassia, clove and nutmeg in a diffuser give a great warm scent to my kitchen, making it feel like there’s always cookies in the oven. Peppermint and lemon in soaks help soothe tired hands and feet. For laundry, I use eucalyptus to help disinfect and lavender to leave a nice calming scent, especially for bedding and towels. My dad just started using Bergamot for treating vitiligo, a skin pigmentation problem he suffers from.

NOW sent me the following two recipes as well. I thought the holiday ones were perfect for the upcoming season.

I found this website to be particularly helpful as a reference for finding uses and benefits for a bunch of different oils: http://www.essentialoils.co.za/therapeutic-properties.htm#essential oils

Barbie as a Real Woman

I happened to stumble upon these pictures of what Barbie would look like as an average woman. Researcher Nickolay Lamm created 3D models of Barbie using an average 19 year old’s proportions. I appreciate the real take on the doll as opposed to the skinny ones I saw growing up. It’s a change I think toy makers should seriously consider.

On a lighter note, Happy Friday everyone! Hope you have a great weekend!

Itsy Bitsy

I happened to stumble across this video last night and it really left me thinking.

As someone who constantly finds herself not buying clothing for fear of looking too skimpy, this video really struck a chord with me. As a business student, I really commend Ms. Rey for finding a market and creating a product to cater to it as a result of her research. Her swimwear line can be found at http://www.reyswimwear.com/.

What do you think? Did the video make you contemplate modesty in conjunction with fashion?
